Tips

Auto Reboot Setter

I don't know about you, but one thing I cannot stand is when my computer does something without my permission! Have you ever been working on your computer when a little screen pops up telling you an update has been installed? It usually tells you your computer needs to be restarted and if you don't click "Restart Later," your computer will automatically restart after one minute.

I'm happy to let you know that I have found a way to get rid of that pesky annoyance for good! This week's free download is called Auto Reboot Setter and it makes that pop up window go away for good. Just install the program and your computer will no longer shut down without your permission. Yes!

You can download Auto Reboot Setter for yourself right here. Just click on Run and choose Disable Auto Reboot.

KuKu Klok is an online alarm designed to wake you up even if your Internet connection goes downI have started using this site everyday and sometimes even more than once. It's so easy to use and you can even customize the alarm tone. To get started, all you have to do is set the time on the clock for when you want it to go off. You can do that by using the + (plus) and – (minus) buttons under the time display.

Once the time is set for the alarm, your next task is to choose an alarm sound. There are four to choose from: a rooster crowing, classic clock, electronic and slayer guitar. I like the electronic!

Once you have both the time and the sound set, click on the Set Alarm button. The alarm is now set, so even if you were to lose your Internet connection, the alarm would still go off!

The Set Alarm button turns into the Cancel button once the alarm is set, so if you need to change the time or sound, you can do so by clicking on the Cancel button. When the alarm goes off, the button turns into the Stop button, so you can just click that to stop the alarm.

I've used this site to wake me up from a nap, I've used it to time cookies I'm baking in the oven and I've even used it to time my laundry cycles so that I can be more efficient and motivated to get my laundry done. There are so many uses for it!

This is a great Web site and I hope you can find many uses for it too!

Address Book Backups

The first thing to do, to make it simpler for you, is to create a folder on your hard drive (in My Documents, or Desktop) called Address Book Backups (or whatever you like). This will make it easier to save the backup and then copy it to your external media in the final step below.

1. On the Outlook Express toolbar, click Export, and then click Address Book.
2. Click Text File (Comma Separated Values), and then click Export.
3. Click Browse.
4. Find the folder you created for your Address Book backups
5. In the File Name box, type address book backup, and then click Save.
6. Click Next.
7. Click to select the check boxes for the fields that you want to export, and then click Finish.
8. Click OK and then click Close.

Our suggestion is that you don't use CD or DVD to backup your Address Book The file is very small, normally under one megabyte. We'd recommend you buy a USB flash drive and save your backup there. You can use the flash drive for other things too and use it keep your address book backup, up-to-date, by simply overwriting the old backup with a newer one - thus saving space and eliminating the confusion having multiple backups of the Address Book which you don't need. The newest backup is the only one you should keep.

http://beta.searchme.com.

This visual search engine's slogan is "You'll know it when you see it," and you'll see why after you try it. After you enter your word into the search box, the results are displayed visually instead of as list of phrases and written descriptions. Scrolling through the choices is more like flipping through a list of album covers on an iPod Touch. It is very easy to use, I would be interested to see what you think.

New search engine

Have you seen the new visual search engine by some renegade programmers from Google who've started their own search engine called Cuil (pronounced "cool"). Take a look at www.cuil.com .
