Are there any alternative music players for Children
I've got three alternative media players for you today that have the potential to make you very happy.
1.) Sansa Shaker - The first one comes from the SanDisk company and it is an MP3 player that is designed specifically for children. The Sansa Shaker comes with an SD memory card filled with pre-loaded music, but you can download your child's favorite music to it as well. It also comes with a pair of earbuds for your child to use, but if they're even too young for that, they can listen to their music with the Shaker's built-in speaker. It even has a second jack so that you can listen with them as well! The Sansa Shaker runs off of a AAA battery, which allows for at least 10 hours of playback. But don't worry, your child will not be able to access the battery area by themselves. That part is meant for grown-ups only!
The Sansa Shaker comes in both blue and pink, so it's perfect for either a little boy or girl. Now, like I said, it is completely designed for young children. With the Sansa Shaker, your child can have complete control over their music with the easy to use fast forward, rewind and volume controls. So, why is it called the Shaker, you ask? Well, if your child wants to change their music selection, all they have to do is shake the player and it will be done! They can even make some pretty cool sound effects with just a little shake. The Sansa Shaker is very lightweight, it comes with a USB cable for either a PC or Mac and it even comes with stickers your child can use to personalize their player. The Sansa Shaker goes for approximately $29 for the 512 MB size or $49 for the 1 GB style. Either way, it's much cheaper than an iPod and it's kid friendly!
2.) Transformer MP3 Player - As you can probably tell, this MP3 player was designed with the popular movie The Transformers in mind. It was designed by both Takara Tomy and the SoundWave company. This media player starts out looking like a normal portable audio player, but it can be transformed into the action figure of Decepticon. It comes complete with two weapons and four hands, just like the movie. What kid doesn't love that?! The Transformer MP3 player comes with a 1 GB mini-SD memory card, which goes into the action figure's chest. It runs on one AAA battery for approximately six hours and it gives off an audio frequency range of 60Hz. It also comes with earphones, so your child can enjoy their music all on their own!
The Transformer MP3 player comes in either blue or white and it goes for $129.99. For even more Transformers fun, you can get Frenzy and Rumble as earphones for $37.99 or Convoy as an iPod docking station with speakers for $109.99. Yes, they're a little more pricey, but if your child or grandchild loves The Transformers, you can't beat it!
3.) Disney MP3 Players - These next media players come from none other than Disney! They have designed several MP3 players that are perfect for young children. For the girls, there is the Princess Flower model, along with a Cheetah Girls style and for the boys, there's a Pirates of the Caribbean version. There are even Hanna Montana and High School Musical players available as well. There really is something for everyone!
All of these MP3 players come with built-in rechargeable batteries that can last up to 10 hours at a time. They are compatible with both PCs and Macs and they work with MP3, WMA, Disney Mix Clips and data files. They are made with both plastic and metal, but they are very lightweight and small in size. All of them come with audio jacks, lanyards, earbuds and a USB port for a computer hookup. The prices vary depending on the model you get and how much memory the player holds. A lot of the 256 MB styles have been marked down to $29.99, while some of the 512 MB versions are $49.99. All of that just depends on what you decide to buy!
Now, I know none of these are anything like an iPod, but they're definitely more kid friendly, they're less expensive.
Finally! A Web site that lets you store all of your bookmarks in one place and is 100 percent free. It is really easy to get started with too. Just click Create Account beneath the username field. You do need an account, because it will keep track of all your bookmarks, allowing you to access them from anywhere.
To register, just fill in the fields: Username, E-mail Address, Password, Security Question (this is a drop down box), Answer and Time Zone. Then just agree to their terms and conditions and click Register. There’s nothing to confirm, so you can get started right away!
After you’ve registered, they will start you off by having you get netRocket buttons for your favorite browser. Right now, I’m a fan of Opera, so I chose that one. Once you’ve selected your browser, you will get a browser specific installation guide to get your netRocket button installed. Just follow the instructions to get it all set up.
If you run into any snags, check out the Rocket Manual link at the top of the page. You'll also find great tips on how to get the most out of netRocket there too!
This site is great for me, because with all the sites I research, I can schedule reminders for myself to go back and look at something I didn’t really have time to check out at the time. That way, I won’t forget to investigate what could be a really cool site. I think the scheduling feature is probably my favorite on netRocket!
Another nice feature is being able to label the sites I bookmark with tags. With that, if I’m looking for a specific kind of site, I can just click on the tag and browse through my bookmarks that fall into that category. An example of tag categories in my links would be: Music, Art and Funny.
I hope you all get as much use out of this site as I already have!
http://netrocket.com/FEBE: New Firefox Extension
So, tell me, how much do you love Firefox extensions? I know some of you probably download new ones everyday, while the rest of you may have only used a few of them. Either way, you have to admit that Firefox extensions are very helpful and they bring a new light to our Web browsing experience. And what I have for you today is no exception! It's called the Firefox Environment Backup Extension (FEBE) and I'm telling you, it's top of the line! In my opinion, it's one of the best extensions Mozilla has ever released for their Firefox browser. Let's check it out!
With FEBE, you can easily back up or move any of your Firefox settings. That includes your bookmarks, links to the Web sites you visit most often, your stored passwords, your form data and so on. There's nothing FEBE can't back up or move for you! Now, I want you to stop and think about something for a minute. How would you feel if you lost all of your Firefox information? Or, what if you had to move it to another location? Talk about a nightmare! But with FEBE, you can do both of those things with ease!
FEBE also allows you to create custom backup configurations and you can even schedule your backups ahead of time. All you have to do is specify a save directory before you begin and then FEBE can go to work. It's a very small download and it's completely hassle-free. Anyone who uses Firefox on a regular basis really should give FEBE a try. If you're interested, you can download the Firefox Environment Backup Extension for free right here. Just click on the Install Now button and you'll be all set. Your Firefox has never been better!
Underline with Pizzazz in Word
Have you ever wished you had a better way to emphasize your point? (You know, besides raising your voice, of course!) Unfortunately, MS Word seems to be pretty immune to that tactic.
You've done the normal bold, color change and underline thing, but this time, you're looking for a little something "extra." (It's like the sprinkles my niece likes to decorate cakes with. Just a little something to add that extra touch!)
Yes?
Good, because I've got a possible solution for you!
How about a different underline for a change of pace?
Instead of the old stand-by, here are a few of the others you can try on for size:
So, now that you know you have options, let's get to the "how-to!"
Once you've decided what text should be underlined, go ahead and highlight it.
Now, it's time to get busy with the underlining.
Go to the Format menu, Font choice.
In Word 2007, you can click the arrow located in the bottom right hand corner of the Font section on the Home ribbon.
Under the Font tab, locate the Underline or Underline Style field.
Click the down arrow to display your choices.
If you have Word 97, you should see this in the menu:
In the newer versions of Word, you'll see something like the screenshot below. (Also note that this list has a scroll bar, so the list contains more choices than you can see at once).
Also, I found that in Word 2007, some of the options were accessible right from the Underline button on the Home ribbon. If you look closely, you'll see that there's a down arrow on the right side of that button. If you click that, you'll see this:
If none of the choices presented in this partial list are what you're looking for, you can choose More Underlines from the bottom and the Font dialogue window will open, allowing you to choose from the entire list.
Either way you go to find your preferred style, simply select the underline style of your choice and then click OK.
And just like that, you have an eye-catching underline that really packs a punch!
