What is Jott
Jott is a service that is able to convert your voice messages into either an e-mail or a text message. All you have to do is call a special phone number, leave yourself a voice message and then Jott will take over. But let's take care of first things first. You will need to become a Jott member in order to use their services. To do so, just visit this Web site and then click on the button that says "Start Jotting Now." You just have to type in your first and last name, your e-mail address and a password of your choice. Checkmark the box next to "I have read and agree to the Terms of Service" and then hit Continue. You will then be sent a confirmation e-mail to confirm your address. You will need to click on the link in that e-mail in order to finish your registration. (Note: If you don't see the e-mail in your Inbox, make sure you look through your spam folders as well).
Once you click on that link, it will tell you that your e-mail address has been validated and you can then just click on the Continue button. Next, you will be asked to enter in your cell phone number. You will then be asked to call a phone number to confirm it. When you call, you will just hear a short automated message to let you know that your number has been validated. When you're ready, hit the Continue button again. You can then add in the names of some of your friends that you might want to Jott. If you don't want to do that though, you can either click on the "Remind Me Later" link or hit Done.
When you're all done with that, you are now ready to start Jotting! To do so, call this number from the cell phone you just registered: 1-866-JOTT-123. You will then be asked "Who do you want to Jott?" If you want to Jott yourself, just say "myself." If you want to Jott someone else, say their name. It's as easy as that! You can leave a message up to 30 seconds long and within moments, you will receive the message you left either in your e-mail or through a text message, whichever way you chose to go. How cool is that?!
So, why should you use Jott? Well, for one thing, if you're out and about and you think of something you need to do when you get home, you can call the toll-free number, leave yourself a voice message and the reminder will be waiting in your e-mail when you get home. Or, let's say you don't really like to text message on your cell phone. You know, maybe you find it difficult to type with all those little keys. If that's the case, what do you do when you need to send a text to a friend or family member? Up until now, you probably either didn't do it or you forced yourself to deal with it. Well, you no longer have to do that. Just call up Jott, leave a voice message for your friend or family member and have it sent to their cell phone as a text message. As long as you know their cell phone number, it's as easy as pie!
Jott is also a safer alternative to text messaging while driving (unfortunately, we all know people do it!) If you have an urgent message you need to send to yourself or someone else, just call Jott and they'll take care of it for you. That way, you never have to take your hands off the wheel or your eyes off the road. There are so many uses for Jott. Whether you need to remind yourself about something or get ahold of someone else quickly, Jott is the way to go. There are several different uses listed on Jott's Web site, but even more, I'm sure you can think of your own if you really thought about it. As you can see, it's so easy to use and it's beyond helpful in those tight situations!
Jott is currently in its beta stage, but you can still use all of its features without any trouble. It's also 100 percent free to use, so give it a try today. You never know how Jott could save your life, time and time again!
Today's site of the week is real gem of a find. You can find Windows Updates (yes, for Windows Vista too), driver updates, software updates, and patches galore for Windows, drivers, and applications. And, yes, the Microsoft Updates and patches are the same exact files offered by Microsoft. Now most everything is free here, all the patches, updates, and fixes are free unless the company that makes them charges for them, in which case you'll have to pay for them. But 90% of them are free and that's better than it's going to be once this company get bought out . So get 'em while their free folks. Bookmark this site or add it to you Favorites when you get there, because you'll want to return often to check on the latest patches, fixes and drivers.
The Webmasters of this site don't really summarize well. They do have a great definition of what a patch is. Here's what they say about patches along with a few other details about The Software Patch Web site.
"...A patch can be an upgrade (adding increased features), a bug fix, a new hardware driver or update to address new issues such as security or stability problems.
While most patches are free to download, ultimately the developer will determine which versions of their software will be updated for free (older releases of a program usually get fewer updates). In some cases, only registered users may get certain upgrades, and at other times the only way to upgrade is to purchase the newer version at a discounted upgrade price (and requiring a reinstallation of the program). Typically, a patch can be installed over the top of an existing program, but again this will depend on the supplier and the nature of the patch. Unless otherwise stated, patches and updates on this site are for PCs using English language settings...."
If you're looking for patches, fixes, missed Windows Updates, driver updates or software patches, fixes and updates, you'll want to put The Software Patch on your list of sites to visit. It's so good in fact, we've named The Software Patch our site of the week. And you know it don't come easy!

As you may recall, in the past few weeks, we have told you about certain aspects of the Google Docs and Spreadsheets program and we have done some tips on the Google Presentations application. You seem to really enjoy these programs from Google, so I've been racking my brain trying to figure out what else I could tell you about. today I'm going to tell you all about Google Writely.
Just in case you've never heard of Google Writely, the easiest way to describe it is that it's a word processing program. It is managed by Google and it is part of the whole Google Docs and Spreadsheets package. Now, I know you're probably saying that you already have a word processing program, so why should you try this one? Well, in my opinion, the coolest thing about Google Writely is that it works right through your Web browser. You can't say that about your other program, can you?! And that's just the beginning of what this application can do for you. Please keep reading to learn about some of the other features Google Writely has to offer!
As with all the Google Docs programs, Google Writely is fully collaborative. With it, you can share your documents with others and collaborate back and forth with them in real time. So, if you feel that you need a second opinion on one of your projects, Google Writely has the tools you need to get that done quickly. With Google Writely, you can also save your documents to your desktop, you can publish them to the Web or a blog and it's even compatible with MS Word. To access Google Writely, you need to have a Google account set up, but once you do, just visit this Web site, sign in and you'll be good to go. You don't have to do anything else! Plus, your documents will be secure in Google's hands.
