Google Presentations
The program was released in September 2007 under the name of Google Presentations. Read on to learn even more about it!
To refresh your memory, the basis behind Google Presentations is to bring you a Web based program you can use for your presentations, just like you would use such applications as MS PowerPoint. This new program comes in conjunction with Google Docs and Spreadsheets, so if you already use either of those, you'll be well on your way to using Google Presentations. With it, you can create basic presentations with the themes it offers and so on and so forth. Now, Google Presentations isn't as fancy as MS PowerPoint, but you can still do quite a bit with it. If you need to put a presentation together and you're looking for something a little different than what you've done before, Google Presentations is what you need!
Another great feature of this new program is that you can collaborate with other users on the projects you're working on. For example, if you finish your presentation and you'd like someone else to double check it for you, you can invite other users and share it with them. They can then do the same thing with you. It's sort of like a "buddy" system and it works great if you're looking for some feedback on your work. This is one feature you can't find anywhere else and Google definitely makes it worth your while. So, if you want to get started with using Google Presentations right away, all you have to do is sign in to your Google account through the Google Docs page and you can do that right here. Go on and enjoy all the free presentations your little heart desires!
October Security Update
Did you know that October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month? Well, now you do and today, we're going to learn all about it! All around the nation, schools, businesses and individuals are spreading the word on how to stay safe online.
Being that it is National Cyber Security Awareness Month, I figured it would be a good time to review a few things all computers should have to be safe when using the Internet.
Antivirus Software - There are hundreds of different types of antivirus software available to protect your computer. While all antivirus companies will state that their software is the best, the most important thing is that you have something. As long as you have an antivirus program installed on your computer and it is up to date, your computer will be able to delete any nasty viruses that may come your way.
Firewall Software - Along with up to date antivirus software, it is also important to have a good firewall. Antivirus software will remove viruses that attack your computer, but a firewall will stop them from getting there in the first place. Just like with antivirus software, there are many different firewalls you can choose from. Windows XP and Windows Vista both have a built in firewall. If nothing else, use the Windows firewall. You can turn this on by going to the Control Panel and finding the Security area.
Anti-spyware Software – Spyware and adware are not viruses, but they are equally as dangerous. These types of bugs can collect information about what you do on your computer to be used by many different entities. In order to protect yourself from these types of attacks, you will need some type of spyware removal software. As with all the other types we've discussed today, there are many different types of anti-spyware software available today as well.
If you find that you are lacking one or more of these products, you should protect yourself immediately. Note: We here at WorldStart sell many different types of software to protect your computer, so if you're interested, you can check out our Utilities section right here.

Lost Recycle Bin
Has your Recycle Bin icon ever disappeared from your desktop? Perhaps the icon was in place one night before you went to bed, but in the morning when you started up your computer again, it was long gone. Where did it go? What happened to it? But more importantly, how can you get it back? Well, there are a few things you can try to get your Recycle Bin icon back where it's supposed to be. So, if you've run out of options, give these a try!
The first thing you can do is right click on your desktop and choose Properties. Once there, hit the Desktop tab and then click on the Customize Desktop button. In the middle of that box, you will see some of the more common desktop icons. Click on the one for the Recycle Bin (it looks like a trash can) and then hit the Restore Default button. Click OK and then go take a look at your desktop. The Recycle Bin icon should be back, but if it's not, don't lose hope, because there are a couple other things you can still try!
For the next option, go down to your taskbar and right click in any open space. From the menu that pops up, click on Toolbars, Desktop. The word "Desktop" will then appear at the end of your taskbar with a double arrow beside it. Right click on those arrows and you will see an option for the Recycle Bin. Next, drag and drop that Recycle Bin icon to your desktop. That should reinstate your icon for you, but if you're still having trouble, try this. Right click on your taskbar again and go to Toolbars, New Toolbar. There should be an option there for the Recycle Bin as well. You can then drag and drop that icon to your desktop. Doing either of these three things should bring your Recycle Bin icon back and you can get on with your daily computing!
PowerPoint allows you to have several windows open from the same presentation. Yep, you read it right! You can open the same presentation to different locations, simultaneously, for quick jumps between your slides.
Interested in how to accomplish this little feat?
Yes? Then let's get to it!
Open the presentation with which you're working.
Now, go to the Window menu, New Window choicePowerPoint will open a second window of the same presentation (you can see down on your taskbar that there are now two PowerPoint presentations listed as running programs).
At this point, you can scroll one of the windows to another location in the presentation.
Then it's time to get busy!
Start your work process and use Ctrl + F6 to flip between the open PowerPoint windows. (As always, you can also use your mouse and taskbar to move from window to window).
Once you've set each window to the slide you're working with, you no longer need to scroll. Simply work on one slide (let's say a copy), then do a quick Ctrl + F6 over to the other window and you're instantly in the next location (for your paste).
I can already hear the questions now: What's happening as you make a change in one window, but not the other? Are they different in the end, therefore requiring you to pick one as the "final presentation" for saving?
You'll be glad to hear that the answer to that is a very loud, "No!"
After making a change in one of the windows, take a quick moment and flip back to the other open window. Now, scroll to the slide you've changed.
Voila! PowerPoint doesn't miss a beat. You'll find that the change has happened in both windows, so there's no need to worry about which one to use when it comes time to save your projects. They all match in content, all the time!
Have more than two places?
Again, that's not a problem! Simply use the Window menu, New Window choice as many times as needed.
If you don't like the Ctrl + F6 trick for scrolling through the windows, there's always the options of Cascade or Arrange All as well (those are also located on the Window menu).
These options will make all of your presentation windows accessible from within one PowerPoint program window. Oh yeah!
Any way you want them arranged, there's always a better solution to your situation than the old time consuming scroll technique!
