The idea behind automatic renewals is not your convenience. You need to know that when you sign up for a "recurring subscription" your credit card can legally be charged each year unless you specifically cancel your subscriptions. Some make it easy (surprising the one that makes it easy is Symantec - Norton). Some make it difficult. Surprisingly again, the one that makes it the most difficult is Microsoft.
Want to protect yourself from being surprised? When Symantec customers sign up for security products, the company sends them a link to a cancellation form they can complete to opt out of auto-renewals - make sure, if you're using Norton/Symantec you do this.

This should give you all more good reasons to use programs others than those by Symantec, McAfee, and Microsoft's One Care. At the bottom of every newsletter is a list of anti-spyware and anti-virus programs that we recommend. We urge those of you using McAfee Internet Security/McAfee Anti-Virus, Norton Internet Security/Norton Anti-Virus, or Windows One Care to take a look at the products we recommend. Your computer will be just as secure, your bank account will be happier, and your computer will run better.
You Oughta Be In Pictures!
Or how to see your folders in "Filmstrip" view
(Windows XP Home, Media and Professional )
The "My Pictures" folder in Windows XP has an extra View option called "Filmstrip". Filmstrip view is where all the pictures appear as a filmstrip on the very bottom of the folder view. If you want this view option available to another folder (and if you like, all subfolders in that folder) - just do this: Right-click on any folder you like and choose "Properties". Click the Customize tab and click down the list of folder types near the top. Choose either "Pictures" or "Photo Album: and this will give you the filmstrip view option for that folder. If you want all folders in that folder to have this option check the box - "Also apply this template to all subfolders". Click on OK. You may need to refresh the view before you will be able to see the changes. You can refresh the view by pressing the F5 key or right-clicking inside the folder (not on a file or icon) and choosing "Refresh".
The Paging File - What Is It? Why Do You Need It? And More Fantastic Paging File Facts!
Windows XP Home, Media and Professional
Advanced User Tip - Create a Restore Point Before Proceeding
What is the Paging File (or Page File) in Windows XP? Well, there are two types of memory; random access memory (RAM) and virtual memory, or the paging (page) file. The page file is created by Windows and resides on the hard drive. The size of your paging file is based on how much RAM is installed in your computer. By default, XP creates a page file which is 1.5 times the amount of installed RAM and places it on the same hard drive partition where Windows XP is installed. If you have, for example, 512MB of RAM installed, Windows will, by default, create a paging file of approximately 756 MB. So whatever drive you have Windows on, better have this much or more free space.
Other than plugging more RAM into the motherboard, there is little than can be done to alter your computers physical performance characteristics. The paging file is a different story. Because it's located on a hard drive, it's subject to a number of factors that can hinder or reduce its performance. The Page File contains a lot of information and some of it can be sensitive stuff like your passwords, usernames, and other personal, private information you might not wish certain others to see. It's always a good idea to clear the Paging File at each reboot. That way sensitive data you're not even aware of cannot fall victim to prying eyes. For those of you concerned about any personal and confidential data your paging file may contain, you can set Windows to clear your paging file at reboot automatically. If you'd like to do that, follow the instructions below to ensure your Paging File is cleared every time you reboot Windows XP.
* Click Start
* Click Run
* Enter REGEDIT
* Click OK
* Go to
* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
* SYSTEM
* CurrentControlSet
* Control\Session Manager
* Memory Management
* Double click on ClearPageFileAtShutdown
* Set Value = 1
* Click OK
* Reboot Your Computer
See Microsoft Knowledge Base article. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314834 for more details and another way to clear the Paging File when you restart or start your computer.

Here's what this week's Site Of The Week is all about.
What is PaperBackSwap? We are a group of real people who have formed a Club to swap paperback books with each other. No gimmicks. No spam. No advertising. No kidding. We are not a large corporation trying to sell you something. We're just a group of real folks who wanted a way of trading paperbacks with each other through the
When another member requests one of your books, you mail it to them. Yes, you pay for the postage. But then another member returns the favor when you request a book from them and they mail it to you. And that way the books are always free because we are all trading books with club members!
Once you have registered, simply list your paperback books that you would like to share with other Club Members. Once you have listed at least 9 of your books, we will give you 3 book credits to get you started trading books with other club members. However, the more books you post, the more likely you are to receive requests. And that means more books for you. So post as many books as you can!
We are building the largest paperback book library in the world. Eventually we will ask our members to pay annual club dues so that we can operate the club (probably between $10-$20 per member per year). But for now we are waiving the annual club dues so that you can become a member of the club for free!
We like everything about this site, including their ideals and goals. If you're an avid reader we hope you'll check out this week's Site Of The Week, PaperBackSwap.com - you won't be disappointed!
