Glide Effortless
Windows all versions and Web-enabled cell phones
After we spent so much time debunking Microsoft's efforts to move your personal stuff onto the Web (i.e. Windows Live Mail and the Windows Live movement)
This is what (we think) Windows Live wanted to be but never will be. It's a complete desktop online. Unlike Microsoft's vision of moving you from your desktop to their servers, Glide Effortless does not. It provides you with choices as to what you wish to access on line and who you wish to share it with. It does not import all your passwords and email messages, address books and personal information. It does not attempt to be a replacement for your operating system, email program, or convince you that today's personal computer is tomorrow's Internet.
What Glide Effortless does do is provide you with a unique way of accessing your files and important documents from any computer. It allows you to collaborate with others - or share a desktop with others from any computer anywhere. It allows Windows, Mac, Linux, cellphone users, and others to access their files, music, blogs and more in a very user-friendly and familiar environment.
Glide Effortless gives you five gigabytes of space free. If you need more than that (for example you're a business person who travels frequently) you can pay for extra space. Glide Effortless offers two pay-for plans. One is $4.95/month - the "Ultimate" package is $9.95/month. But, for most of you, including those who travel often, Glide Effortless "free" will provide you with enough space to do almost anything you want to do. If you don't get an account for any other reason than to keep your precious pictures, documents, files and music backed up - that's enough reasons.
We've never seen anything like Glide Effortless - ever. It's so familiar and intuitive, we're betting that 95% of you could start using it within minutes of signing up for a free account.
You will see that images you upload, show in thumbnails, just like the do in Windows XP and Windows Vista. Note the big arrows that say "Upload" and "Download"? Not too hard to figure out that it's a snap to transfer files from your computer to Glide and from Glide to your computer. Glide automatically recognized file formats so music files go into the Music folder, photos go into the Photo folder, Videos go into the Videos folder, etc. automatically. You don't have to bother opening the folder and upload files. Just upload and let Glide figure it out for you.
you'll be able to follow the progress of you uploads while you do other things on Glide. The upload animation (shown as a static image below) displays the progress of your uploads.
Glide Effortless allows you to create documents, emails, even PowerPoint-like presentations right online. There's an events calendar with email-reminders and a desktop synchronization tool you can download to keep your Glide account in synch with your desktop - and lots more.
Glide Effortless is not perfect. There are still some minor bugs to be worked out. But for the most part it works better than we expected, and it's easy enough that even a beginner should have no problem using many of it's features. One thing we want to point out is that this may not work very well if you have a dial-up connection. It was created and designed for those with broadband connections
This is one of the most unique tips we've ever featured and we hope we've piqued your interest enough to get you to take a look at Glide Effortless and if you like what you see, grab a free account while you can!

Using the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Windows XP and Windows Vista
If you're not able to remove or uninstall an application in Windows XP or Windows Vista Uninstall option in the Control Panel, try using the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility.
If you installed the application using the Windows Installer (and many programs do install using the Windows Installer) the Windows Installer CleanUp utility will remove all the folders, files, registry keys, and entries from your system and allow you to start over with a clean slate.
Here's how to do it.
1. Download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility from the Microsoft Download Center.
2. Run msicuu2.exe to install the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility.
3. Locate and launch the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility on the Start menu.
4. From the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility window, locate the application you want to remove in the list and click the Remove button.
5. Once the application has been removed, click the Exit button to close the utility.
Create A Handy "Clear Clipboard" Shortcut For Windows Vista
We're going to show you how to create a shortcut that will let you clear the Windows clipboard anytime you like by clicking its icon. Why would you want to clear the clipboard? Because massive amounts of data copied to the clipboard can slow your computer down significantly. Plus, information stored on the Windows clipboard may contain personal and private information you don't want anyone else to access, for instance credit card numbers, phone numbers, addresses and the like. Information stored on the Windows clipboard is the least secure of all. Any Web site can access your clipboard with a simple script. In fact, many Web sites do - but not for malicious purposes. Any Web site that allows you to fill forms, write email, documents, etc. will have a copy/paste feature. Where do you think that information goes to and comes from? Right! Your Windows clipboard.
It's better to keep it clear of data just to be on the safe side and to keep your computer running at optimal speed.
And this is also a quick and easy way to clear your clipboard if you copied something that you don’t want to leave on the clipboard that someone could come along and see - even by accident. It could be embarrassing in a work environment for example.
Enough yammer - here's how you create a shortcut to clear the Windows Vista clipboard.
Right click on an empty area of your desktop and choose "New" and "Shortcut"
Type in the following command (exactly)
cmd /c "echo off | clip"
Now, click "Next" and then give the shortcut a name ("Clear Clipboard" would be nice, eh?)
Click "Finish" and that's all there is to it. The Clear Clipboard icon will on your desktop but it doesn't have to stay there if you don't want it there. You can drag it to your start menu or to your Quick Launch toolbar. Or, if you're not a neat-freak, you can leave it right there on your desktop.
Now, anytime you want to clear the clipboard, all you have to do is just click your "Clear Clipboard" icon.
Never Use Windows Vista's Hibernation Feature? Turn it off!
Windows hibernation is a background service that can use a large amount of your system resources. In fact, it uses approximately 1.5 times the amount of your total system ram.
While Windows Vista's Hibernation feature allows you to quickly restore the system from its last powered on state, and does save the time of doing a "cold" boot, and makes the boot process quicker, it also can degrade your Vista system performance.
If you disable hibernation it will add time to the boot up process but it will save hard drive space, resources and lessen likelihood your system performance will degrade over time. If you never use Vista's Hibernation feature, it might be a good idea to turn it off.
Here's how to turn off Vista's Hibernation
Open Control Panel then choose Power Options
Select "Change Plan Settings"
Click on "Change Advanced Power Settings"
Expand the "Sleep" selection
Now expand the "Hibernate After" section
Move the selector to zero and click "Apply" to apply the changes.
