How to edit a PowerPoint Show file

PowerPoint Show file! Heard about that?

Yes, it is the file with a .pps extension that plays the PowerPoint slideshow. Since it runs the slideshow directly, you don't get the option of editing the file from the PowerPoint environment.

However, with a small tweak you can easily edit the content in the PowerPoint Show file.

1. Let's assume you have a powerpoint show named "Life.pps" which needs to be modified.

2. All you have to do is change(or rename) the extension of the file from .pps to .ppt.
(Note: To display the file extensions of file types, in Windows Explorer go to Tools >> Folder Options >> View and uncheck the "Hide file extensions of known file types" checkbox.)

Go back to the email and click on the link to the PowerPoint presentation. Instead of opening the slide show,
click "Save" and in the "Save As" field change the extension from .pps to .ppt.

3. So, "Life.pps" should be made "Life.ppt".

4. Clicking the "Life.ppt" file will open it in the PowerPoint environment and can be easily edited.

This tweak can also be applied the other way around when you want to make a PowerPoint Slideshow (.pps) from a PowerPoint presentation document (.ppt).
