What is "tabbed browsing"? As much as Firefox and Internet Explorer want you to think of it as a "big deal". It's not. Actually, it will appeal to the neat freaks among you because you can browse many sites in a single browser window. With tabbed browsing you have 17 Web sites open, all in a single window.

Turn On The Tabs

The first thing you need to do is be sure you have Internet Explorer 7 installed. If you don't, you won't have the option for tabs. So, click "Help" "About" and make sure you're using Internet Explorer 7. If you're not you can download it from Microsoft here.

1. If you're using Internet Explorer 7, click "Tools" (on the IE7 Toolbar) then choose "Internet Options". In the section labeled "Tabs" click "Settings""

2. Make sure "Enabled tabbed browsing" is checked. 'Cos that's how you turn it on :-). You'll see a list of other options. You can choose from different ways of displaying tabs. You can experiment here until you have Tabbed Browsing set up the way you like.

Playing With Tabs

Above you can see that we have four pages opened in tabs. By clicking on a tab you can view the page without opening a new browser window. Alternately, you can switch tabs by clicking on the tiny down arrow (just to the left of the first tab) and selecting the page you want to view or you can click on the icon which looks like four squares. And if you're a keyboard fan, you can browse between tabs by pressing CTRL+TAB or CTRL+SHIFT+TAB or switch to a specific tab number by pressing CTRL + N (where n is a number between 1 and 8)

Adding A Tabbed Site To Your Favorites
by clicking the icon which looks like a green plus sign and a gold star, you can add any site open in a tab to your favorites - or you can add all the sites (whether visible or not) which are open in current tabs to your Favorites.
