11-3-06 Tips

To prevent Windows from prompting you "Are you sure?" when you delete files:

1. Right-click the Recycle Bin icon and then click Properties.
2. Click the Global tab in the dialog box, and then clear the Display delete confirmation dialog checkbox.
3. Click Apply and then click OK.

Tip:
Some of us who have been using computers for a long time pretty much know when we delete something we can recover it whether or not it goes into the recycle bin. If you're one of those who've been around computers awhile and know the CTRL + Z (undelete) command you really don't need to send everything you delete to the recycle bin anyway

Did you know that behind the scenes Windows keeps log files of things going on with your computer? No! No! It's not spying on you. There's a lot of information you can use if you're having problem with your computer or a certain application.

Click on Start, then Control Panel, and then Computer Management

Under "System Tools" (in Computer Management) click "Event Viewer". Depending on which applications you have installed on your machine, you'll find several items listed in the menu under "Event Viewer". Feel free to browse around in there and take a look. You can't hurt anything and you might find some interesting things have been going on that you didn't even know about.

There may or may not be (on your computer) useful information that can be helpful to resolve a software problem on your computer. Regardless, at least now you know that these event logs exist and where to find them. Their usefulness depends on what software you have installed and the kinds of logs that are kept. But learning new things about your computer is what makes computers fun. We hope you've learned something here you didn't know before!

QDictionary

Hello, this is the home page for QDictionary. QDictionary allows Windows Internet Explorer users to highlight words and get their definitions or look them up in the Thesaurus using the selection's right-click context menu. QDictionary currently only supports English words.

Highlight a word, then right-click the selection

You can get it here (Current version 2006.10.25 62 KB)
Version 2006.10.25: Added support for tabs in IE7. Improved support for Windows Vista.

Note: All IronDust software is free of ads, adware, spyware, etc. Everything uninstalls cleanly from the Start menu or in Add/Remove Programs. No information is ever sent back to irondust.com (or anywhere else!). If you have any problems at all please email us at the address shown at the bottom of this page.

When you run the installer, it should come back to this page (if it doesn't, bookmark this page, close your browser, re-open it and come back). In the new window, select one of the hard words below then right-click over the selection. You should see an option titled "Lookup Word". If you don't, then copy the URL address from the browser, close IE and open a new IE. Paste the URL in the location field and click Go. You will come back to this page, and when you do, you should now see the "Lookup Word" context menu. Selecting that option will open up another browser window containing the defintion of the selected word from dictionary.com. You can use QDictionary to lookup defintions for words you find on any page on the Web. QDictionary also provides Thesaurus functionality using the "Thesaurus" option in the selection's context menu.
